SHORT CUTS- There are12 to 20 unique pieces of silk and silk blends from vintage Japanese kimono ranging from 4” x 6” to 7” x 13” in each bundle.
This is the same quality as the fabric in our other packets, but the pieces are too short to make the size requirements. Minimal sorting
and packaging is done to keep the price very affordable. No color choice. Every bundle is different. Price $18.00. Weight is 4 ounces. |
| We created these packets based on the way kimono are constructed. The fabric is woven approximately 14 inches wide. One portion is cut in half and sewn to each front to create the overlap. So we end up with pieces that are either about 14 inches wide or about 7 inches wide. Most of the fabrics are silk, or silk & some other fiber such as cotton, wool, ramie or linen. NOTE: Greens and light blues are the least common colors in
kimono. When ordering in this range please give us a second color choice . As always, we will make every effort to find your
first choice. Of the thousands of kimono we have seen, we have seldom seen two just alike, so reordering a particular fabric probably won't be possible, but we often can find something similar. |
| Burmese Silk |
![]() |
This fabric is perfect for many types of projects. It drapes well and is very lustrous. The true beauty of this fabric is difficult to capture on film. For example, the cream is actually a pink warp crossed with a lime green weft. Depending on the angle of view, it looks cream, pink or pale green. Burmese Silk is silk which has been blended with a little cotton and/or rayon. It is hand woven on very primitive looms in Thailand and Burma. Slight irregularities are to be expected. It is machine washable on the gentle cycle and may be line or machine dried. If the finished product will be washed, it is recommended that you pre-wash as some shrinkage will occur. The fabric comes to us on mini bolts which are generally within 2 to 3 inches either way of 4 yards. The width is usually around 40 inches. |
| Pha Sin |
![]() |
Silk Ikat sarong from Thailand, these are also referred to as pha sin, paisin, pasin...pronounced "paw-sen" and mudmee. A great deal of skill is required to hand dye and weave these iridescent textiles. Each is a unique work of textile art. We obtain these garments for the fabric, however most of them can actually still be worn as sarongs. Some are new but most have been worn. We actually prefer the used ones as the silk is incredibly soft. There may be an occasional small stain or snag to work around or mask with embellishment. This fabric combines beautifully with both our kimono fabric and Burmese silks. Go to our Online Store to see current offerings. |
